What are the next steps to getting Invisalign?

17 April 2018

Invisalign braces are designed to be a straightforward treatment process, to give patients the smile they want with ease. If you’re looking to use Invisalign to correct your smile then you’re probably keen to know the process. With the help of our Invisalign practitioner, Dr Charles Lister, we explain the usual steps you can expect during your Invisalign treatment.

1. Invisalign Consultation
At your Invisalign consultation you will meet your Invisalign-trained dentist who will evaluate your personal circumstances. You will have time to discuss any concerns you may have and what you hope to achieve from the process. Your dentist will then determine whether Invisalign treatment is suitable for you. This is a very relaxed appointment where we will answer all your questions and explain our affordable pricing structure.

2. Custom treatment plan
In your next appointment your dentist will take x-rays, and either a digital scan or dental impression of your teeth, which is then sent off to the Invisalign manufacturer.

The information collected will be used to create fast, precise 3D digital images of your teeth. Your dentist will then talk you through your personal, precise treatment plan, tell you how long your treatment will take, and you will even be able to see a preview of your finished smile.

3. Receiving your aligners
Once your custom aligners have been shipped to us, we will arrange your next appointment to pick them up. You will receive a series of aligners to wear every day, usually changing them every 1-2 weeks.

For best results you will need to wear the aligners for at least 20-22 hours a day, only taking them out to eat, brush and floss. You will need to schedule check-ups every 6 weeks or so.
