What are the alternatives to veneers?

03 April 2018

Porcelain veneers can help improve the appearance of teeth that are malformed, cracked, discoloured or have other types of imperfections. Made of semi-translucent ceramic, porcelain veneers look realistic and are not noticeable.  However, veneers do require extensive preparatory work to your original teeth, which cannot be restored once the process has been completed.

So if you are simply unhappy with how your smile looks and you would like to make improvements to the appearance of your teeth, then there might be a number of alternative options available.

Teeth Whitening
If you are concerned with the colour of your teeth and you wish to improve them, then teeth whitening may be a more affordable alternative. Your dentist can perform teeth whitening treatments during an appointment at your local clinic, or you can purchase an at-home teeth-whitening kit.

While whitening can be an effective way of improving the colour of your teeth, it won’t do anything to improve the shape or the alignment. For this, you will need to undergo orthodontic treatment.

Orthodontic Treatments
If you are not happy with the alignment of your teeth, then orthodontic treatment, such as braces or Invisalign, might be a more suitable alternative.

Invisalign— Invisalign offers patients an inconspicuous alternative to the traditional metal braces. It has rapidly become a popular orthodontic treatment because not only is it practically invisible but the aligners are also removable, cause less disruption to speech and are virtually pain-free.
